Thought I’d get this week’s Illustration Friday out of the way before the new working week (s’gonna be KER-RAZY).
Can’t tell you how delighted I was to see SUSPENSE as the key topic. That got my noir love going all sorts of places. Hee!
I referenced an awesome Detective Stories cover from my copy of True Crime: Detective Stories (1924–1969). Tried to be more Impressionistic here, but also just wanted to emphasise that vivid red frame. View in full scale to see the details!

That’s nice! By the look of it this could really be the cover artwork of a crie story. That was one of the first things that came to my mind.
It is actually a cover from a Detective Stories magazine—I just reinvigorated the original with a tighter composition and texture. I love the mood.
Beautiful job! Defnitely looks like a scene from an old movie or the cover of a suspense novel. Great technique.
It actually is a cover! And thanks so much.
Great painting.
Very expressive, great job!
Thanks – I have to give credit to the original artist for such a dynamic subject to begin with.
Perfect for suspense. Is it horror, lust or something else in her eyes, who knows. Gorgeous painting!
Thank you! I hadn’t thought that she may be lusting after something or other. Good observation.
